What is No-show?

A booked appointment the client never attends: lost time for service businesses, and the main thing reminders exist to prevent.

What is No-show?

A no-show is an appointment that was booked but not honoured, and its cost is bigger than the empty slot: the preparation time, the slot another client could have taken, and in clinics and salons the staff time that was rostered around it. No-show rates of 10 to 30 percent are common where bookings carry no reminders or commitment.

The countermeasures are well understood: immediate confirmation with a calendar file, reminders at sensible intervals, easy rescheduling so a conflict becomes a moved appointment rather than a missed one, and for high-value slots, deposits or approval steps that add commitment.

Why it matters

No-shows are a silent tax on every appointment business, and they are one of the few problems software genuinely solves. Cutting a 25 percent no-show rate to 10 percent is worth more than most marketing: it is revenue recovered from capacity you already had.

How it works in Medivot

Medivot attacks no-shows at both ends: booking confirmations carry a calendar file and automatic reminders go out before the appointment, and attendance is recorded on the CRM timeline, so a client who misses can enter a rebooking automation while a client who attends gets the follow-up you planned. Webinar events track no-shows the same way.

Frequently asked questions

What is a normal no-show rate?

It varies by industry, from under 5 percent for committed consultations to 30 percent for free bookings without reminders. Clinics and salons typically see 10 to 20 percent before adding reminders. Track your own rate first; the improvement target follows from it.

Do reminders really reduce no-shows?

Yes, consistently. A confirmation with a calendar entry plus a reminder the day before and an hour before removes the two biggest causes: forgetting and double-booking. Easy rescheduling links convert many remaining no-shows into moved appointments.
